Hard Bakka Rigging proudly delivered the structural rigging and steel erection works for the Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) at Kariong High School, located on the Central Coast of New South Wales. This project involved constructing a large-span shelter over the school’s basketball courts—an essential feature that provides year-round protection for students during sport and outdoor learning activities.
The COLA structure was designed to meet strict Department of Education standards for durability, safety, and weather resistance. Our team was responsible for the entire steel rigging and lifting process, using a combination of mobile cranes, elevated work platforms (EWPs), and rigging equipment to safely install the structural steel components.
Given the project’s location within an active school campus, our entire crew underwent Working with Children Checks and drug testing to comply with Department of Education requirements. This ensured that all work was carried out with the highest regard for student safety and welfare.
Our experienced riggers coordinated closely with other trades to ensure minimal disruption to the school environment. Safety remained a top priority, with zero site incidents reported and all works completed in accordance with NSW education site protocols and Safe Work Australia guidelines.
The structure consisted of precision-engineered steel beams and trusses, designed to span the basketball court with minimal support columns, maximising open space and usability. The result is a visually clean and functional shelter that enhances the school’s facilities while adding long-term value to the campus.
The Kariong High School COLA project was completed on time and within budget, a testament to Hard Bakka Rigging’s reliable project delivery and expertise in education sector builds. This installation adds to our expanding portfolio of school infrastructure projects across New South Wales.
