Train Maintenance Shed – Structural Rigging & Installation
Hard Bakka Rigging was contracted to carry out rigging and structural steel installation for the Chullora Train Maintenance Shed — a critical facility within Sydney’s rail infrastructure network. This CC2-classified project demanded high-precision rigging standards, requiring meticulous alignment and compliance with strict engineering specifications.
Our work involved the assembly and placement of large-span steel structures, including structural columns, steel trusses, purlins, and wall frames. These components formed the backbone of the train shed, supporting roof cladding, mechanical systems, and operational access platforms. Given the facility’s scale and operational load, all elements were aligned to millimetre precision.
To meet the project’s strict safety and compliance requirements, all crew members held current RIW (Rail Industry Worker) certifications and were fully inducted prior to site entry. Our team also implemented detailed lift planning and load assessments, ensuring full compliance with Safe Work Australia standards and rail-specific site protocols.
Advanced rigging equipment, such as mobile cranes, EWPs, and custom lifting gear, was used to safely handle and position oversized steel components. Coordination with other subcontractors was essential due to the limited laydown space and concurrent activity on-site. Our team maintained constant communication with the project’s management and trade supervisors to ensure workflow continuity and safety.
Despite these challenges, Hard Bakka Rigging completed the project on schedule, within budget, and without a single incident. This project reinforced our capability to deliver complex infrastructure builds with precision, safety, and professionalism — especially in regulated sectors such as rail transport.
