Train Maintenance Shed – Structural Rigging & Installation

Hard Bakka Rigging was contracted to carry out rigging and structural steel installation for the Chullora Train Maintenance Shed — a crucial facility within Sydney’s rail infrastructure network. This project involved assembling and installing large-span steel structures designed to support the operations and maintenance of trains in a high-use industrial environment.

Our scope of work included the rigging and placement of structural columns, steel trusses, purlins, and wall frames, with all components requiring millimetre-precision alignment to support roof cladding and service platforms. Due to the facility’s scale and operational significance, safety and precision were paramount throughout the installation process.

The team deployed advanced lifting gear, including mobile cranes and elevated work platforms, to ensure safe and efficient handling of large and heavy steel sections. All lifts were pre-planned with detailed lift studies and load assessments, aligning with Safe Work Australia regulations and local site safety protocols.

Coordination was key on this job — with ongoing activity from other subcontractors and limited laydown space, our rigging crew maintained continuous communication with project managers and trades to ensure workflow efficiency. Despite these challenges, the Hard Bakka Rigging team completed the project on schedule and without incident.

This project not only contributed to improving Sydney’s rail servicing capabilities but also demonstrated our team’s ability to execute complex rigging operations in infrastructure-critical environments.
