Redfern Railway Station Upgrade

Redfern Railway Station Upgrade

Hard Bakka Rigging successfully delivered the structural steel installation for the Redfern Station Upgrade, completing the project on time and on budget.

This upgrade marked the 103rd project delivered by the Novo Rail Alliance, a joint venture between Laing O’Rourke, John Holland Group, Aurecon, and Transport for NSW (TfNSW). The project focused on improving accessibility to Platforms 1–10 and featured major infrastructure enhancements, including:

A new 6-metre-wide Southern Concourse
Six new staircases and lifts from the concourse to platforms
Two new station entrances at Marian Street and Little Eveleigh Street
Upgraded shared zones around entrances
Relocation of a heritage building to accommodate the new lift and stair structure at Platform 1
Resurfacing and installation of tactiles across ten platforms

Our crew of seven qualified riggers played a critical role in the installation of steel beams, purlins, and framework components. Working around heritage-listed infrastructure, the team applied precision rigging techniques and adhered to strict safety measures to ensure no disruptions occurred to surrounding station operations.

Despite tight site access and heritage sensitivities, the crew delivered the job to specification, maintaining compliance with all safety and engineering requirements. The use of advanced rigging tools and experienced coordination made this project a prime example of Hard Bakka Rigging’s capability in complex urban infrastructure environments.

This job reinforces Hard Bakka Rigging’s reputation as a leading rigging provider for government and transport infrastructure projects in New South Wales.

Hard Bakka Rigging completed the Redfern Railway Station Upgrade with precision, safely installing structural steel and purlins while navigating heritage challenges. The project improved station accessibility and met all safety and budget requirements.
