Redfern Railway Station Upgrade
Hard Bakka Rigging crew successfully completed the intricate installation of the structural steel scope at the Redfern Station Upgrade on time and on budget. The upgrade was heralded as the 103rd project delivered by the Novo Rail Alliance, a partnership between Laing O’Rouke, the John Holland Group, Aurecon and the client TfNSW. The upgrade is designed to improve accessibility to Platforms 1-10 and featured, a new six metre-wide Southern Concourse; six new stairs and lifts from the Southern Concourse to Platforms 1-10; two new station entrances at Marian Street and Little Eveleigh Street; new and upgraded shared zones surrounding station entrances; successful relocation of a heritage building to allow the new stairs and lift on Platform 1 to be built; and resurfacing and tactile installation across 10 station platforms. Our highly qualified rigging crew navigated safely and carefully around the heritage building and completed the installation of the steelworks and purlins safely and without disruption to other services. It was a challenge, but our crew of 7 riggers came through successfully.
